Norman Thompson

June 28, 1922 — October 24, 2013

Norman C. Thompson, 91 , of Bartlett, formerly of Chicago; husband of Patricia M., nee Raimondo, father of Norine Marie (George) Thompson-Ord, Gregory John Thompson, Glen Christ Thompson, Patricia Jo Ann Thompson; grandfather of Gina Marie (Jerry Garcia) Herkel and Jack Kennedy Herkel; great grandfather of Donovan Kennedy Garcia and Jetta Deckard Garcia; brother of the late Olive, Oscar and Hogan. Son of the late Christ and Olivia nee Friderickson Thompson. A Wells High School graduate - class of 1940. Married his wife on June 26th, 1946 and stayed married for 67 amazing years. Norman adored his wife's family and they adored him. He worked in steel treating in Chicago and was a longtime volunteer fireman in Bensenville, where we grew up. (he was great at both, because they involved intense heat, and he could handle things that were piping hot with his bare hands). He also drove a truck and a cab, and could tell you what was standing at any address in Chicago that you named. He was a great shot, threw an unhittable pitch (at least by his sons and neighbors), was a true champion pool player in Chicago in his youth (and in our basement barroom, which he built), and a terrific dancer (jitterbug, fox trot, you name it) with his wife and daughters. He was known for both his strength and his wink, he could build anything and fix anything, and in his later years, he watched and helped his son Greg and Greg’s partner build their own successful construction business, of which he was so very proud.
Services will be private at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 950 South Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd.) Bartlett. Interment will also be private at Mt. Carmel. (630)289-7575.
