Norman R. Pokorny Sr., 92, of Streamwood, died Thursday, December 12, 2024.
Norm was born on August 20, 1932, in Chicago. He served during the Korean War as a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. When his service took him to a SAC base in Puerto Rico, he met his late wife and soulmate, Kristine who, at the time, was also serving in the Air Force.
After Norm and Kris were discharged, they married. In 1957, they became one of the first families to reside in the new village of Streamwood, IL. Norm was proud to have lived in this patriotic community for 65 years. His dedication to his family was unwavering, and he and Kris were fiercely committed to raising their family.
Norm was a man of many passions. He pursued his love for learning and graduated from I.I.T. with an Engineering Degree. His successful career at Hotpoint/General Electric, where he worked for 38 years, was a testament to his dedication. He also earned his private pilot's license and loved to fly in his free time. His passion for running, World War II history, gardening, and German Shepherds was infectious. He shared those passions with everyone around him.
Norm was the beloved husband of the late Kristine Pokorny. He was a loving father to Lorie (Steve) Van De Voorde, Normann (Pauline) Pokorny Jr, Lisa (John) Juna, Don (Denise) Pokorny, and Kathy (Jamie) Dunne. Grandfather of Jennifer (Ben), Steven (Candace), Kristen (Wilson), Matthew (Ellen), Dan (Sophie), Kyle (Jenni), Michael, Ben (Sarah), Bayley, Samantha, Jillian (Neil), Jacqueline, Alex (Jackie), Tyler, Joey, Victoria (Carl), Johnny, Linda (Kevin) and KC (Jess) was a role model to all. Great-grandfather to Cody, Avery, Wyatt, Noah, Jack, Noelle, Natalya, Liam, Ethan, Nate, Rory, Deven, Max, Luke, and Joanna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Martha Pokorny, and his brother, George (Lynn) Pokorny. His siblings include Beverly (Marshall) Villareal, Bob (Carol) Pokorny, Marilyn (John) Augustine, Michael (Angela) Pokorny, Dian (Ken) Kovack, and Susan (Paul) Leckinger.
The family wants to express gratitude for the love and support shown during this difficult time. Visitation is from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 1640 S. Green Meadows Blvd, Streamwood. The funeral is Friday, Service at 10:30 am at the funeral home. The interment is at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin, IL.
