Normalie Ethel (née Peterson) West, 84 of Hanover Park, died Sunday, December 15, 2024.
Normalie was born on November 21, 1940, in Turner County, South Dakota to Norman and Ethel (née Schuttler) Peterson. She treasured that she was born on her mother’s birthday; both were born on Thursday, November 21st at 8:30am.
At 19 Normalie was teaching elementary school for the Seventh-day Adventist Conference in Minnesota, and then in Michigan. She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in 1977 with high honors achieving her Bachelors of Arts in Information Science. She spent most of her IT career working for Illinois Bell/AT&T/Ameritech in Chicago. She also spent 15+ years working in IT for Northern Trust Bank in Chicago.
Normalie enjoyed music. She played organ every week at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Waukegan. She was also in choir and played the flute. She enjoyed knitting afghans, baby blankets, scarves and hats. She was a talented seamstress, making her own clothes in high school and making clothes for her children.
Normalie is survived by her three daughters Darcy Bowen (Paul Frohman), Dorinda West, and DeLauna Ellis (Greg); sister Karen Wade, sister-in-law Valeta Peterson, sister-in-law Becky West, brother-in-law Bill West (Cindy), and sister-in-law Mona West. Grandchildren Alyssa Brumfield, Hans Brumfield (Corinne), Kyra Ebert, Kaley Ebert, and Stephanie Ellis, as well as great-grandson Sebastian Brumfield; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Ethel Peterson, brothers Wesley Peterson and Perry Peterson, brother-in-law Theodore (Ted) Wade, Jr., sister-in-law Lois Peterson, brother-in-law Ritchie West, sister-in-law Olivia Jane Stratman, and nephew Charles West.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Gurnee Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2190 Fuller Road, Gurnee, IL
