Noel John Marsh passed away surrounded by family on April 21 at age 87.
Born December 2, 1938 in Chicago to Noel S. and Harriet Marsh, Noel J. was the youngest of three. He grew up in Lemont, IL, on an acre – what he called “in the country” – where he enjoyed the outdoors with his sisters. His antics included jumping off the house starting at age 8, as he always wanted to leap from airplanes.
After high school, from 1959 to 1962, Noel proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he fulfilled his dream of training as a paratrooper and received medals. He also trained as a driver, mechanic, and radio teletype operator.
Following his service time, he joined a friend and moved to California. While he enjoyed the sunny setting, he moved back to Illinois after a few years, where he lived with his sister Joan. Then he was introduced to Peg Deady, asked her on a date to go bowling, and the rest was history; they were married on November 9, 1968.
He began working at Quackenbush Company in Crystal Lake in 1969, dedicating himself to his profession until 2018 when he retired.
He was the proud father of Mike and Eileen, and enjoyed going on family trips to many national parks, and to visit extended family in other states.
Noel was known as a handyman who completed remodeling and home improvement projects for decades at home in Roselle. He also enjoyed growing tomatoes and roses.
In recent years, he was diagnosed with dementia, but retained fond memories of his Army days and family.
He is remembered for his sense of humor, spirit, and strong work ethic.
Noel is survived by his wife, Peg Marsh; daughter Eileen (Brett) Marsh; son Mike (Angie) Marsh; granddaughters Hailey Fiedler, and Aubrey and Veronica Marsh; and nieces and nephews as well as extended family.
Noel was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Joan Moore and Holly DeGreef.
Noel’s Celebration of Life will be Saturday, May 23 at Countryside Funeral Home in Roselle from 3pm-7pm, with Military Honors presented at 5pm, followed by readings and the opportunity to share memories of Noel.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the charity of your choice.
