Niranjan Kantilal Desai

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved Niranjan “Niru, Buddy” Desai at the age of 78 on February 23, 2026. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family, after courageously battling ampullary cancer for the past 1½ years.

Born and raised in Nadiad, Gujarat, Niranjan came to the United States in 1968 to pursue a degree in chemical engineering at Texas A&M University. After eventually moving to Chicago, he built a life rooted in dedication to family, friendship, and community.

Niranjan was a devoted husband to Surekha, a loving father to Payal, Amee, and Sunny, and a proud grandfather to Zayn and Ayan. He was also a cherished brother and loyal friend. He lived his life with kindness, humor, and quiet strength. Whether he was bowling, cheering on the Chicago Bears, playing cards, attending coffee club, traveling, or spending treasured time with his grandsons, Niranjan brought warmth and joy to every gathering. His presence filled every room, and he was truly the life of the party.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. His love, guidance, and spirit will continue to live on in all of us.
