Nancy (nee Tomala) Sokowski , 87 died Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in Streamwood, Illinois. Born October 15, 1937, to the late Marion and Louis Tomala, she attended Chicago’s Steinmetz High School and lived most of her life on the northwest side of Chicago. Nancy had a good heart and was always positive and supportive, especially towards each of her children’s endeavors. She was a great cook, loved to dance, a seamstress for special occasions and crocheted many afghans with perfection. Nancy could always be counted on for lively conversation with new friends and old. She was able to match wits with the best, finish a crossword puzzle in record time, and always ready for a late-night game of Scrabble. She had an infectious laugh that encouraged everyone around her hone their comedic talents. She was known to appreciate a good pizza, a glass of wine or the occasional taste of vodka. She made long-time friends working outside the home in positions ranging from retail cashier to various administrative roles, learning to find her way around computers until her last few months of life. She became an avid Chicago sports fan, especially the Cubs and Bears, with her late husband Robert Sokowski (d. 2021). Henry “Chuck” Wojda is the father of her four children, Michael (Carol) Wojda, Victoria (Gary) Reese, Kathie (Jason) Rychlik, and William (Jean) Wojda. She was step-mother to the late Michael(Anne)Stevens (d.1991), Cyndi Freiwald, Kathi Stevens, and Dorothy Sokowski. A loving Grandmother to Alex Wojda, Libby (Frankie) Adler, Sarah (Kyle) Poplawski, Andrew (Tara Montoya) Gockenbach, Kelsey Gockenbach, Jessica (Seth Trevino) Wojda, Ryan (Shelby) Wojda and Samantha (Nick Bonaventura) Wojda. Step-grandmother to Michael R. Stevens, the late Justin Bunzol (d. 2020), Kinsey Sokowski and Kaden Sokowski. Cherished Great-Grandmother “Gigi”, to Adelaide, Veda, Peter, Fin, Gemma, Wynona and Harlow.
A service will be held at St.Adalbert’s Cemetery in Niles, Il on October 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. .
