Nancy N. Liddell died May 15, 2014 at age 67, ending a 13 year battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease. Nancy was born on August 26, 1946 in Red Bank, NJ, the only daughter of Jack and Mildred Liddell and a granddaughter to Arthur Swift. Nancy and her family lived in Little Silver, NJ until 1963 when her family moved to the south suburban area of Chicago where she completed her high school education.
After graduation from the University of Illinois (Urbana) Nancy initially entered the business world through the Trust Dept of the then Harris Trust and Savings Bank. In 1981 Nancy joined the Planned Giving Staff of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and thus began a highly successful charitable fundraising career. She held senior fundraising positions with the Visiting Nurses Assn. of Chicago, the Mid-America Chapter, Amer. Red Cross and the Amer. Cancer Society, Illinois Division.
Professionally, Nancy was a member of the Chicago Chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Executives (Co-president 1996 - 97), a founding member of the Chicago Planned Giving Round Table and participated as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Chicago-Continuing Studies Program in fundraising.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 19 yrs., William A. Thuma, Jr., her stepchildren Michael C. (Mary Kay) Thuma, Debra Thuma (Stephen Rowe) and 5 step-grandchildren, her brother John (Melody) Liddell of Ft. Collins, CO, her aunt Betsy Morse nee Liddell of Freehold, NJ, her cousins Nessa (Bunny) Morse of Shrewsbury, NJ and Robert (Veronica) Morse of Honolulu, HI, her dearest Camp Matollionequay chum, Sheila Haese of Fairhaven, NJ and her loving companions Tyson and Trey Chien.
Burial services for the family will be private. During her life Nancy and her husband were active supporters of Boxer Rebound P.O. Box 214 Ringwood, IL 60072 and the Nancy Liddell AKC Canine and Good Citizenship Scholarship at the Humane Society of Manatee County 2515 14th St. West, Bradenton, FL 34205.
