Murriel Jean (Larson) Riedesel departed this earthly life October 26, 2025 after battling a version of
Parkinson’s for several years. She was 87 years old.
Born on September 15, 1938 in Rochelle, IL to parents Hazel and Oscar Larson and sister to younger brother
Arlen. Her parents preceded her in death in 1992 and 1999 respectfully, followed by her brother in 2014.
Murriel devoted her life to education, family and community. She met and married Robert Riedesel of Oregon,
Illinois on June 10, 1962 and together they built a family filled with love and laughter.
After obtaining her Masters in Education from Northern Illinois University, she taught for 35 years in the
Wauconda School District 118, as well as at College of Lake County. There she touched countless lives with
her patience, kindness and passion for learning.
Beyond the classroom, Murriel was an avid quilter who found joy in creating beautiful works of art for those she
loved. She proudly quilted many valor quilts for the Armed Forces Veterans as part of the Quilting Guild in the
Sun City community in Huntley, Illinois and was an active member of their Sew and Sew Club. While quilting
was her one true passion, she also loved to knit, read, garden and travel. With her husband by her side, they
travelled all over the globe crossing off cities and countries from their “bucket list”
.
As a faithful member of St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church, Murriel was deeply involved in her community
and a proud member of the RELICS group through which she helped raise funds for charitable organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, her children Michael Riedesel and Susan Urban (John), her four
granddaughters; Tara Brooks (Jack), Sydney Perry (Brock), Samantha and Kira and five great-grandchildren,
all of whom brought her endless pride and happiness.
Murriel will be remembered for her generous heart, her gentle spirit and her unwavering dedication to others.
Her legacy of love, learning and service will live on in all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring at St. Hugh Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be
made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Your support will help accelerate progress
towards a cure for Parkinson’s disease..
She will be greatly missed.
