Minerva Rivera Vega

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Minerva Rivera Vega, who peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, at the age of 89. Minerva was born on Sunday, November 8th, 1936, and was a beloved resident of Elgin, Illinois, and Puerto Rico.

Minerva was cherished by her family and friends, living a life full of love and dedication to those she held dear. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose A. Irizarry Sr., a devoted mother to her son Jose (Sandra) Irizarry Jr., and a proud Moncha to Angelica (Adam), Anthony, Daniel, and Joshua. Minerva was further blessed with great-grandchildren Harper, Hailey, Hudson, Zoey, and Zuly, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by two dear siblings.

A woman of faith, Minerva was a passionate church-goer attending St. Thomas More Catholic Church when she could and found great joy in spending time with her family. Her playful spirit could often be found enjoying the thrill of the slot machines, a pastime that brought her delightful moments of leisure and fun.

Minerva was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Luis Rivera and Carmen Vega, and ten siblings. Though her presence will be greatly missed, her legacy of love and devotion remains ever-present in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation to be held at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory in South Elgin, Illinois, on Monday, September 14th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the same location, where we will come together to honor and celebrate Minerva's remarkable life.

Minerva Rivera Vega will be remembered not only for the life she led but for the countless ways in which she touched the lives of others. Her cherished memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Minerva.
