Mimi Warwick
August 19, 1939 — January 28, 2024
Mary Alice (Mimi) Warwick, 84, of Bartlett, IL, peacefully passed away on the 28
th
of January 2024.
Mimi was born on the 19
th
of August 1939 to Marvin and Anita Butler in Hartford, CT and grew up in Alpine, NJ. After Mimi graduated from Holy Angels Academy, Englewood, NJ in 1958, she pursued a degree in Education at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA, graduating in 1961.
After graduation, Mimi worked in education for over 40 years, starting at Charles DeWolfe Elementary in Old Tappan, NY and retiring at Spring Trail Elementary in Carol Stream, IL in 2003.
In 1963, Mimi met John at a ski area in upstate New York. John and Mimi went on to have 3 children, Tom, Matt and Chris.
Mimi had a wonderful life moving around the country with John and her sons. They started in Montvale, NJ and then went on to live in Alpine, NJ, Hazardville, CT and Albany NY until 1969 when they left the East Coast with their two young sons, Tom and Matt.
That same year, they started crisscrossing the Midwest, first in Bartlett, IL for a half a year, 2 years in Columbus, OH, 2 years in Streamwood, IL, 3 years in Overland Park, KS before finally settling in Bartlett again in 1977. Along the way, Chris was born in Columbus, and Mimi continued with her love for teaching as a substitute teacher in all these locations.
After settling in Bartlett, Mimi taught full time at St. John the Baptist Grammar School in Winfield, Big Hollow Jr. High in Wauconda, Horizon Elementary in Hanover Park, Teft Jr. High in Streamwood, and finally Spring Trail Elementary. She made many teacher friends and enjoyed socializing and playing bunko with them.
Travel was a major part of Mimi’s and John’s life. Many summers were spent at the Jersey shore. John and Mimi enjoyed several Spring Break Caribbean cruises. They also traveled extensively throughout Europe while accompanying Bartlett High School’s choral group. Rounding out her seasonal travels, a few winters were spent in St Thomas with her sister Anne Ellen and friends.
Mimi was also an active crafter, creating needlepoint, cross stitch and knitting. She also volunteered her time with high school plays.
Church and her faith played an important role in Mimi’s life. Be it simply attending weekly masses, reading as a lector, participating in the prayer shawl ministry, or volunteering as a Minister of Care. Mimi truly lived her life following Christ.
Mimi was predeceased by her parents Marvin and Anita Butler, her sister Anne Ellen Wigmore. She is survived by her husband John, her sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Shari, Matt and Akiko, Chris and Melissa. Nonnie loved spending time at dance recitals, soccer games, baseball games, trap shooting and swim meets with her 8 grandchildren: Lauren, Jori, Jack, Jade, Emma, Ben, Jude and Lynn. As well as many nieces and nephews. She will be truly missed by all.
