Michael Markarian, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Born in Chicago on May 10, 1946, Michael lived a life full of adventure, service, and love.
A proud veteran, Michael served our country with honor in the United States Air Force, where he exemplified dedication and integrity. His commitment to service continued throughout his life as he became known as a "jack of all trades," always willing to lend a hand and share his expertise with anyone in need. Whether fixing a leaky faucet or offering sage advice, Michael's generous spirit touched many lives.
His heart found joy in the simple pleasures. An avid fisherman, he spent countless serene hours at Lake Vermillion, a beloved retreat he frequented since his teenage years. He fondly remembered his youthful days working in the stables, where he found excitement and peace in riding and breaking horses.
Michael's unique sense of humor and unwavering kindness left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. But most of all, he will be remembered for his devotion to his family. Being a grandpa to Jaxton and Leonidas Saccomonto brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment with his loved ones. Michael's family was his pride and joy, and his love for them was boundless.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Markarian, with whom he shared nearly 50 years of marriage, Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his children, Dana (and her fiancé David Kelley) Saccomonto and Michael Markarian; his grandsons, Jaxton and Leonidas Saccomonto, his dear sister, Joyce Williamson; and his nephews, Nick (Dallas) and Jerry, Jr and niece Kelly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 1:00 pm until time of Memorial Service 3:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 1640 S. Greenmeadows Blvd. Streamwood, IL. In honor of Michael's memory and his spirit of generosity, the family encourages everyone to lend a hand to someone in need, to find joy in the simple pleasures, and to cherish the laughter shared with loved ones. Michael Markarian will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew him.
