Mary Runzel

January 19, 1932 — September 14, 2009

Mel was born January 19, 1932, in Plainfield, NJ. She was the daughter of John and Marjorie (Lynch) Shallow. She passed away at home on Sept. 14, 2009, with her family and Hospice at her side.
Mel was a graduate of Northwestern University (1955), and National College for graduate work in Education. She worked in the Education Dept. of Larkin Center of Elgin, for 20 years, then became a social worker for Hanover Township in Bartlett for 14 years. Always interested in politics, Mel was a Hanover Township Trustee from 1977-1992 and again from 2003-2007. Mel was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by two very special and marvelous sons: William L. Runzel IV (wife-Lauren Cavallo) of Evanston and John Shallow Runzel (wife-Julie Gibeau)of Elgin. Seven terrific grandchildren: Johnny, William V. Victoria, Gavin, Cooper, Charlotte and Harry and many loving friends and fellow Bridge players. Memorial donations would be greatly appreciated to Larkin Center 1212 Larkin Ave, Elgin, IL 60123.
Cremation was private at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory.
