Mary Ellen Holtz

Mary Ellen Holtz, 71, of Streamwood passed away peacefully February 4, 2024. Mary Ellen was the loving mother of Michelle (Michael Schwartz) Holtz; beloved sister of Robert (Debra) Wallen of South Barrington, proud aunt of Bria and Rob Wallen. Fun loving cousin to Ron (Bea) Blohm of Lake Zurich, Gerry (Suzanne) Blohm of Fox River Grove, Mary Aileen (Yngvar) Rikardsen of Fox River Grove and their families, and many good friends. 

Mary Ellen was an amazing mother to her daughter and was a frequent volunteer with her after school activities in the early years. She had a passion for all the children that she nurtured throughout the many years with her childcare career. Mary Ellen grew up in Norridge, IL and looked up to her big brother, Bobby. Through her passion for cooking, she passed down all the Italian recipes from generation to generation. Her most enjoyable moments were spending time with her daughter at her softball games, gardening and later on listening to books and WGN. She was very social and loved chatting on the phone.  Maryellen was fond of pets, and if she wasn’t babysitting for family or neighbors, she was caring for their furry family members too. She enjoyed sports, and was a diehard Cubs Fan and had a love for Ron Santos throughout his career.  All in all, her love of family and her unwavering faith resonated the most.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, February 24, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 1640 S. Greenmeadows Blvd (at Barrington Road) Streamwood. A service will be held at 6:00pm. Cremation was private at Countryside Crematory. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) www.jdrf.org.
