Mary Kathryn Hansen, 63, of Poplar Grove, Illinois, passed away on March 16, 2021 after a long battle with lung cancer.

It would be a disservice to say that Mary lost her battle because she was a fighter. Few people truly knew the extent to which she struggled daily. Her joy for life and unmistakable vivacious spirit kept her pushing through the pain until the very end.

She was born to Joseph and Leatrice (Matson) Nastasi on July 11, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Glenbard North High School, she began work in the finance sector, breaking in with DHL where she would meet and ultimately marry the love of her life, Glyn Hansen. They wed on July 25, 1980 in Chicago, Illinois. Together they had three daughters, Kristine, Stacy, and Nikki. After settling down in Elgin, Illinois Mary amassed a 25-year career with Central States Health and Welfare until her retirement.

An avid cook and baker, Mary loved to watch the Food Network and HGTV in her spare time. Constantly in the kitchen trying a new recipe and utilizing one of her many kitchen gadgets she collected over the years. Mary was infamous for making extra food and fostering a welcoming environment where both friends and family were offered a seat at her table at any time. World-renowned for not holding back her opinion, she was a loud, proud Italian that told you the truth even if it was not what you wanted to hear. Above all, she will be remembered for being a loving and caring mother and wife. She was always the first to help a person in need.

She will be extremely missed by her husband of 41 years, Glyn; three daughters, Kristine Leann Tripp, Stacy Lynn Bradley (Alexander), and Nikki Lee Haskins (Edward); and 11 grandchildren, Haley, Kally, Gianna, Kiefer and Dylan (Kristine), Trevor, Madelyn and Ainsley (Stacy) and Blake, Connor and Parker (Nikki); her siblings, Yvonne, Sandra, Joseph, Robert and Carol; and her countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.

A private family “Celebration of Life” will be held this summer in lieu of a service.
