Marshall Gordon, 100, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, passed
away peacefully on February 15, 2023. Born on January 19, 1923, to Philip and Molly Gordon,
in Chicago, IL, he lived a full life throughout his 100 years. Marshall served in the US Army
Tank Corps in WWII where he was awarded 4 medals. While home from Europe on a 30 day
leave, he met the love of his life, Shirley Fay Linden, who preceded him in death in 2009. The
two were married in 1947. He went on to attend Northwestern University on the GI Bill. They
settled in Addison, Illinois where Marshall founded Woodlawn Engineering Inc. Eventually they
made their way to Barrington, IL and split their time between Barrington and Delray Beach, FL.
Marshall was a brilliant mathematician with perfect handwriting and wrote numbers on small
pieces of paper which he carried in his wallet instead of credit cards. He had a wonderfully dry
sense of humor and always had a witty reply to share. His catch phrase, when asked if he’s
comfortable was, “I make a living.” Marshall was a sports fan, supporting all Chicago teams,
and an avid golfer. He was a very humble and generous man, contributing regularly to multiple
charities and supporting education for his grandchildren. His life was a living example of how a
person can be successful with hard work and ambition. He was a true inspiration to his family
that aspired to follow in his very large footsteps. Although he will be missed by many, his legacy
will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for many years to come.
Marshall Gordon, beloved husband of the late Shirley; loving dad of Jacqueline (Pat) Farrelly,

enduring relationships lifelong and beyond.
