Maria Karas, 99, of Itasca, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born in Wielopole Skrzynskie, Poland on March 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Franciszek and the late Franciszka (nee Kiebala) Slusarczyk. She was the loving wife of the late Stanley Karas whom she met in a German work camp during World War II. They married on July 23, 1945 and were married for 32 years. Maria enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she also enjoyed going on road trips, being in the sun, and by the ocean. She loved to watch her Telenovela shows and also enjoyed baking, cooking, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. Loving mother of Stanley (Harriet) and the late Zbigniew (Maria); devoted grandmother of Casimir Karas, Veronica (Robert) Kicinski, Valdemar (Jennifer) Karas, Margaret (Mark) Arrington, Ursula (Michael) Thoroe, Yolanda (Paul) Magin, and Bridget (Steven) Loyd; cherished great grandmother of Briana (Matthew) Mourao, Alexxa Arrington, Amelia Loyd, Camden and Aviana Thoroe, Michael and Andrew Kicinski, Anthony and Tyler Karas, and Dana, Nicholas, and Kristin Karas; proud great great grandmother of Dawson and Daxton Mourao; Maria is survived by two sisters and was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers. Visitation Monday, June 10 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 333 S. Roselle Rd. (1/2 mile south of Irving Park Rd.), Roselle.
