Maria Luisa Bernardo, 91, born on August 28, 1930 - passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home in Bartlett, Illinois, surrounded by her children and grandchildren on January 25, 2022.
She was only around five years of age when she lost her own mother; later became the eldest of five step siblings. She is survived by her four sons and three daughters, Roman ("Chito"), Martiniano, Froilan, Carmelita, Leonardo, Loise, and Amelia, along with her 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Coronato Bernardo.
Maria was born in Pampanga, Philippines and eventually migrated to the United States in 1985 with her husband to petition their unmarried children to live a better life together in the U.S. with more opportunities.
Maria lived a fulfilling life as a mother, wife, sister, friend, and homemaker. She was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children. She cared deeply for all her children and grandchildren. She always found a way to give to her children even if she only had a little to begin with. She was admired as a kind mother by former classmates and friends of her children.
Maria was also devoted Catholic who spent countless hours praying daily for those that she loved and others.
She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Carmelites) in the Philippines. Maria always encouraged her children to be close to God. She would attend mass everyday during her younger years back home and continued to listen to God’s words up until her finals days.
Maria lived a simple life with contentment. She fought a good fight in her Faith, and she will be missed by family and numerous friends.

Funeral Monday, January 31st, beginnng with prayers at 9:30 am at the funeral home and going to St. Peter Damian Church, 131 S Crest Ave, Bartlett, IL, mass 10:30 am.
