Anna Margaret (Marge) Shults, 90, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marge was born to Christian and Elizabeth Fransen in Summit, South Dakoka. She was an intelligent, driven woman, graduating as valedictorian of her high school class. She went on to graduate from Northern State Teacher's College and began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse, a role that exemplified her passion for education.
After getting married, Marge moved to Chicago and then Carpentersville, IL where she worked for Motorola in Schaumburg for many years before retiring and relocating to Kentucky. In her retirement, she continued to enjoy a fulfilling life filled with hobbies and passions. Marge was an avid camper, traveling with the Coachmen Camping Club. She also enjoyed being an active member of the Red Hat Club and Homemaker’s Club. Crocheting was a constant in her life, and she proudly participated in the Warm Up America program, making beautiful contributions to the community. A lover of nature, she found joy in planting flowers in her yard. Marge also loved reading, often immersing herself in books and stories that brought her joy and inspiration. She also loved spending time with friends, especially while playing cards at the senior center.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald L. Shults, Sr., her daughter Elizabeth Shults, and her daughter Sandra Norling.
Marge leaves behind her daughter, Lisa (Rick) Stepson of Elgin, IL, and her son, Gerald (Mitzi) Shults, Jr of Cincinnati, OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alex Stepson of Pingree Grove, IL, Adam (Nora) Shults of San Diego, CA, Krystle (Damon) Philpot of Cincinnati, OH, Jason (Heather) Shults of Loveland, OH, Darrell (Amber) Sanders of Williamsburg, OH, as well as great-grandchildren Lucas, Ethan, Blake, Madelynn, Conner, Trinity, Kainen, Apollo, Noah, Lizzy, Emma, and Jackson, along with her great-great-granddaughter, Charly. Marge is also survived by her brother, Richard Fransen of Watertown, SD, and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Marge’s legacy of love, kindness, and community will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A private graveside service will be held at a future date.
