Margaret Wruck

April 23, 1920 — January 27, 2016

Margaret Mary “Margie” Wruck, née Stubing, a resident of Bartlett, Illinois, went home to The Lord on January 27, 2016, at the age of 95. She was born April 23, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois, and was the oldest of six children.

Margie was the beloved wife of the late Paul “Babe” Wruck, whom she married in 1948 and who preceded her in death in 1999, after 51 years of marriage. Together, Margie and Babe had four children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and countless more dear family and friends.

Margie was the loving mother of Paul, the late John (Susan), Nancy (Mark) McKnight and Mary Anne (August) Vonderheide, Jr.; a loving grandmother of Christiane (Philipp) Muheim, Jennifer (Michael) Hatt, Caroline McKnight, Stephanie (Matthew) Dorsch, Joseph (Leslie) McKnight, Lisa (Bryan) Wilcosky, Kevin (Colleen King) Vonderheide, and Katelyn Vonderheide; a loving great-grandmother of Joseph T. McKnight, John and Hailey Hatt, Brayden Wilcosky and Ava Dorsch; dearest sister of the late John (the late Anne) Stubing, the late Geraldine (the late Donald) Dhamer, the late Richard (the late Margaret) Stubing, the late Joan (the late John) Thomas, and Daniel (Ann) Stubing; and a dear aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Margie graduated from St. Xavier University in Chicago in 1941 with a B.S. and taught hundreds of students before retiring in the early 1980’s. A devout Catholic, Margie taught science for many years at St. Matthew’s Parish School in Glendale Heights, where she was a parishioner. She made an indelible mark on the school and the students alike, revolutionizing the school’s science program by securing the school’s first science lab. Margie taught with a spirit and style that inspired many of her students to love learning and the sciences, performing lab experiments, launching model rockets, and hatching chickens. She started a 4-H club that lasted at St. Matthew’s for over 20 years, and she is remembered fondly by many of her former students and the parish community even today.

In retirement, Margie became an active member of the Fellowship Club at St. Thomas More in Elgin, and finally joined St. Isidore Parish, which she called her spiritual home for the past twelve years. A lifelong, devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, Margie promised to join the team in the outfield this season, and meant it. She made friends with everyone she met, deeply touched countless lives, lived each day with a joyful heart and unforgettable smile, and truly left the world a better place.

Margie’s Celebration of Life will begin with visitation on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 950 South Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd.), Bartlett, with a prayer service and eulogy at 6 p.m. On Monday, friends and family are asked to meet at St. Isidore Parish, 427 W. Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale, at 9:45 a.m. for visitation and 10:45 a.m. for Mass of the Resurrection. The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Catholic Charities, 721 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, Illinois 60654, or Bridge Communities (Karen Stewart Memorial), 505 Crescent Blvd., Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137.
