Margaret "Peggy" Scire, 75, nee Crocitto; cherished wife of Anthony "Tony"; adored mom of Daniel (Samina) and Brianne (late Michael) Worley; treasured grandma of Dillon, Caterina, Iman and Cailan; fond sister of the late Frank, Catherine, Regina and Raffaela; beloved daughter of the late Peter and Regina; devoted friend of many and caring companion of her little dog Letty Luna.
Margaret "Peggy" (Crocitto) Scire was born on August 14, 1948 in Staten Island, New York. She peacefully passed away on December 8 of 2023 in Elgin, Illinois, at the age of 75.
Tony and Peggy originally met while working for the United States Postal Service in Staten Island, New York. where she fell in love with him at first “walk”. Peggy was immediately drawn to Tony’s “shy-guy” personality and set her sights on making him hers forever. They married a few months later in June of 1974, and welcomed their son, Daniel, in May of 1975.
Peggy was a fierce and strong woman, having been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma shortly after the birth of her son in late 1975. She fought, and survived her cancer with the care of her compassionate doctors at NYU, coupled with her amazing resilience and willpower as well as through the strength and support of her family.
In 1978, Peggy, Tony and Danny relocated to Port Richey, Florida. In August of 1980, they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Brianne. Peggy was a doting and proud mother, she took that job seriously, making home made meals every day, ensuring everyone was healthy and taken care of, all while making it look effortless to those on the outside. Peggy was a master at her chosen profession, being a domestic engineer. She was an integral influence in her son’s success as an Electrical Engineer, and her daughter’s time in the United States Air Force.
In 2010, Peggy and Tony moved to Elgin, following suit from her children’s relocation to Illinois. They settled into a new home in a fantastic community where she played water volleyball, bocce ball and bags, making countless friends along the way. She was a part of their neighborhood Bunco ladies group, the Wednesday breakfast group, the Donut Club, and always game for the Saturday night dinner get-togethers each week with her closest friends. Peggy was a lover of life and new experiences, she was able to share her love of travel taking their children to 48 States of the USA, through Canada as well as portions of Mexico in addition to visits to the Caribbean via cruise. Peggy traveled Europe as a young woman and wanted to go back again so she and Tony toured Europe together in 2012. She was full of love and life, would sing any song with words she made up, she loved to dance, and had a flair for art and was immensely creative with painting, or decorating small bird houses she displayed in her guest room. She loved to watch the birds in the bird bath out the front window in her wing back chair, and weather permitting, sitting on the front porch with Tony, eating breakfast, waiting for a friend to pass by and chat a while. She was a lover of music, and loved to see concerts, she was a huge fan of Seinfeld, David Muir, MSNBC, cooking shows and all the “House Hunter” series along with “The Price is Right” which was a staple with dinner most nights. She would wake up every morning and, working together with Tony, complete a crossword before getting the day started.
Even at the end she found a way to let us know everything was going to be ok by making sure she fought to stay with her family for as long as she could. Her beautiful hazel eyes and bright red lipped smile will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know her. She will always be loved and will fondly be remembered. We love you, always, Margaret, Peggy, Mom, Grandma.
