Lynette S. Smith, 78, of Elgin, Illinois, was born in Chicago and grew up in Elmwood Park. She raised her family in Hoffman Estates before she and her beloved husband, Robert Smith, retired to Del Webb in Elgin.

Lyn loved Jesus and was always a beautiful witness of her faith to her family, friends, and everyone she met throughout her life. Kindness and love are what her family will remember most about her. Those qualities will continue to shine like a light through everyone whose life she touched.

Lyn was the beloved wife and best friend of Robert E. Smith Jr. They shared more than 60 wonderful years of life together, centered around their faith, family, and the many family gatherings they cherished and attended so often. After their children were grown, Bob and Lyn enjoyed traveling together throughout the country and bringing family and friends along with them. One of their favorite places to vacation was Florida—always the sunshine for Lyn and the oysters for Bob.

Lyn was a loving mother to Lisa (Tom) Manzardo, Eric (Meredith) Smith, Michael (Jennifer) Smith, and Heather Murphy. She cherished every moment she could spend with all of her children together. From her four children came 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom Lyn faithfully prayed for—even before they were born.

Lyn was a true prayer warrior. She believed deeply in the power of prayer and had tremendous faith in Jesus. She prayed continually for her family and had a special heart for newborn babies, often praying over them for the protection of Jesus and that they would grow to follow in His footsteps.

Lyn was the cherished daughter of the late Herbert and Marcia Wyman and the sister of the late Herbert Wyman, Patricia Wyman, and Lauren (Terry) Spann. She was also a loving aunt to seven nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and great-nephews. Lyn was very proud of her Wyman heritage, which dates back to before the Revolutionary War.

Lyn leaves behind a true legacy of strong Christian values, unwavering faith, and deep family bonds that will be felt for generations to come. Her love, kindness, prayers, and beautiful example of faith will live on in all who knew and loved her.

Although she has crossed over into Heaven, we are confident and at peace knowing that we will be reunited with her again. Until that day, we will hold close the memories of her love, her laughter, her prayers, and that beautiful smile we will never forget.
