Lilah June Lichthardt
June 16,1933 to May 15, 2025
The daughter of Ernestine and George Goebbert, our mother was born on a farm in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She left the farm in 1953 to marry Eugene Lichthardt of Roselle. She worked fulltime as a bookkeeper at Illinois Range and then Gits Plastics while raising the two of us, Juanita and Larry, with the help of our paternal grandmother, Edna Lichthardt. She was a devout Christian, growing up in the Lutheran Church, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Roselle until her death.
Mom was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling competitively into her 80s. She and dad enjoyed snowmobiling in Wisconsin, Yellowstone, and even Iceland, as well as boating on the Mississippi River. Mom was always ready to give things a try and was known to say “yes” to whatever opportunity presented itself. She tried water skiing at Lake Powel in her 50s, cross country skiing, and she even hiked with us at Bluff Spring Fen the day after her 90
th
birthday. She travelled west to see us and her grandchildren on numerous occasions keeping family close and enjoying life and all it had to offer. Mom and Dad had close friends in northern Wisconsin and for a while were members of a gourmet club in Hayward. In 2021she took a “tour of the grandchildren”, visiting Erica in Salt Lake, Gavin in Fresno, and Natalie in Seattle.
Our mother made friends easily and kept her friends and family close. She very much enjoyed the last nine years at Westbrook Senior living where she connected with many people and made several very close friends. Living at Westbrook also kept her close to the family of her brother Jim, who preceded her in death by only 2 years, and whose family has been a constant source of support and love.
Mom showed us how to be good parents, how to be a good friend and how to live life.
Mom is survived by us and our spouses Amy Lichthardt and Paul McDaniel, by her three grandchildren and their partners: Gavin Lichthardt (Yani Lopez), Erica Lichthardt (Amanda), and Natalie McDaniel (Chase Leland), and by one great-grandchild, Norah.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Roselle, The American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice. Mom would be grateful.
