Leonardo Rivera

Leonardo A. Rivera Sr., 85, of Bartlett, IL passed away on October 31, 2024. Leo was born on November 6, 1938, to his parents Marciano and Eugenia Rivera.  He was the dear brother to Zoilo, Emeterio, Ofelia, Ricardo, Lilia, and Teresita.

He was the beloved Husband of 61 years of Jovita; loving Father of Leonardo Jr. (Arlene) Rivera, Lorena (Dio) Manalansan, Jonathan Rivera, Jackie (Kelly) Burns and JoAnne (Uday) Khedkar; cherished Papa of Julius, Jason, Jeremy (Ada), Arianne, Samantha, Dean, Joshua, Jack, Katie, Lily and Mia.

Leo graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Philippines and was self employed as a geodetic engineer.  He came to the United States in 1978 after being hired by the National Survey Service Engineering Firm.  He worked at this firm until his retirement in 1997.

Leo loved family gatherings and vacations.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and bowling. Those who knew him revered him for his fierce and kind nature, immense generosity, and a great fondness for cooking. His very famous and tasty "Papa soup" will be forever remembered by his loved ones and those who tried to replicate it and failed.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd. Bartlett, IL 60103 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm with a service at 3:00 pm. For information, please contact Countryside Funeral Home, 630-289-7575.
