Leonard Cecil, a cherished resident of Streamwood, Illinois for over 40 years, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on Sunday, September 3, 1939, in Montcalm, West Virginia. Leonard will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit.
Leonard spent his professional life as a skilled Tool and Die Maker, where he was known not only for his expertise but also for his commitment to craftsmanship and quality. As an avid fan of both the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks, Leonard’s love for sports was infectious, often sharing his passion with friends and family. He was particularly known for his fondness for racing and his impressive mechanical skills, always dedicated to keeping his beloved 1968 Barracuda in top condition.
In addition to his professional and sporting interests, Leonard had a great love for western movies and took joy in helping those around him. His travels with his late wife, Mary, were among his most cherished memories, and he spoke often of their adventures together.
Leonard is survived by his granddaughters Lovette and Victoria, cherished great-grandchildren Jacob, Morgan, Logan, and Lilly, and his devoted niece Priscilla. He was also a dear friend to the Emberton family since the late '50s, a testament to his lifelong friendships and caring nature.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary, his dear children Joseph "Lenny," Leslie, Barbara, Cathy, his mother Hattie, sister Gwaynn, and nephew Mark. Leonard’s legacy of love and family is carried forward by those who survive him.
Visitation for Leonard will be held at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory of Streamwood, IL, on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., also at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory. Arrangements are provided by Countryside Funeral Homes & Crematory - Bartlett.
In this time of mourning, we remember Leonard not only for his many accomplishments and passions but for the love and joy he brought to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of family and friends.
