Leon Anton Stevens Sr. passed away from natural causes, peacefully at home surrounded by his family, early Monday morning, April 20, 2020. Leon was born in Chicago in 1933 and moved to Elgin in 1970. Leon was an avid bowler at Bowlway in Elgin for more than 40 years. He was exceptionally proud to have bowled a perfect 300 game on January 24, 2008 at the tender age of 74. He continued bowling well into his 80s and loved the comradery and friendship of all of his leaguemates. Leon worked as a piping engineer for more than 40 years, led numerous projects and retired from Ambitech Engineering Corp. in 2002. He loved his family more than anything and was always ready to help a friend. He was loved by and will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 46 years, Gail (McMurdo) Stevens, his parents Anton & Anna (Arkulari) Stevens, and his sister MaryAnn (Stevens) Simonelig. He is survived by his four children Leon Stevens Jr., Donna Stevens-Gambino (Al), Mark Stevens (Maryann), Laura LaGrano (Gerard), his seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial will be held at a future date when it safe to gather and celebrate Leon's life.
