Leo Edward Utsch; loving father of Brian (Lillian Hughes) Utsch; dear grandpa of Gwen & Carina; fond brother of Frances, Mary, the late Henry and the late Edward.

Long time resident of Wheatland Plains, IL, Leo Utsch passed away on September 5, 2026, at the age of 86. Born and raised in Wedron, Illinois he moved to the Plainfield area in the mid seventies where he quickly became a fixture of the neighborhood. He was well known for his friendliness, walking his many dogs, and sharing the bounty of his garden.

In 1992, after 30 years, he retired from the Montgomery Caterpillar plant. Afterwords he started doing lawn care for many of his neighbors, as well as picking up scrap for recycling.

Leo was a member of the US Army and served in Vietnam. Because of this he will be honored and interred at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Elwood IL.


Family and friends are invited to meet at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery (information booth), in Elwood, IL , on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 9:45 AM. A public service and military honors will take place at 10:00 AM at the Committal Shelter. Leo's cremated remains will be placed in a columbarium niche following the service privately. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Leo may be made to VFW Post #5506, 571 Ruland Street, Marseilles, IL 61341.
