Lawrence Petrus

December 31, 1969 — March 4, 2024

Lawrence A. “Larry” Petrus, age 84, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024, at his daughter’s home in South Elgin, IL.  Larry was born in West Allis, WI, the son of John and Florence (Watson) Petrus. Larry was a graduate of West Allis Central High School, Class of 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon J. (Koch) Petrus and they recently celebrated their 65 th wedding anniversary.  Larry started his 20+ year career with Clark Oil in 1957 as a gas station attendant and ended as a Regional Sales Manager in Illinois. His next career was as a Dunkin Donuts Francise Sales Manager where he proudly graduated from Dunkin Donuts University. During semi-retirement, he sold cars at HUB South where his many relatives and friends helped him achieve a few Salesmen of the Month awards.  Larry was a “people” person and would often be asked to speak at events or lead a group in prayer.  He really enjoyed being Master of Ceremonies at his many Class of ’57 High School reunions. Larry was a faithful servant and served as Deacon and Elder at Apostle Presbyterian Church in West Allis, WI. Larry and Sharon enjoyed retirement in West Melbourne, Florida where they were surrounded by family and enjoyed many afternoons at the 5 o’clock cocktail club which included many rousing games of trivial pursuit. Papa enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren’s activities and waking early to “get donuts” whenever the grandchildren visited.  Larry is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, his son, Tedd Petrus, and grandson, Eric Bergren.  He is survived by his wife, Sharon J. (Koch) Petrus who currently resides in a Memory Care facility in South Elgin, IL; his son, John Petrus; his daughter, Laurel (Dan) Bergren and Daughter-in-Law, Marva Petrus; his grandchildren, Rachel (George) Kriss, Kevin (Alex) Petrus, Jason Petrus, Melissa Petrus, Daniel Petrus, Jessica (Justin) Larsen, Jake (Alex) Bergren and Jordan Bergren; six great-grandchildren; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.   Memorial donations to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, The Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, or The ALS Association, www.als.org, would be greatly appreciated. Our family takes comfort in knowing that he will be reunited with his son, Tedd, who died from ALS in 2021. No funeral service is planned at this time. Cremation was private at the Countryside Crematory.
