Lawrence (Larry) Magallanes passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2025, with his wife, Sally, by his side. He was 78 years old. Larry resided in Roselle, IL for the past 31 years. He lived a full life, having a quiet and deep faith in God, and always treasuring his family.
Larry leaves a legacy in both family and many other artistic works. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sally (Ricks) Magallanes, daughter Danielle (Scott) DuBose, son Mark (Patti) Magallanes, brothers Paul (Joy) Magallanes, and Frank (Rosa) Magallanes. Larry also has five grandchildren, Nicholas (Victoria) Ludolph, Samantha (Alex) Magallanes Nash, Mark Magallanes, Luke DuBose, and Brooke Sutton (Jason Warren), and one great-granddaughter, River. Larry has many nieces and nephews living across the United States and family in Jalisco, México. He was preceded in death by his parents Ramón and Josefina V. Magallanes, his brother Ray and sister-in-law Marie Magallanes, and son, Lawrence David Magallanes.
He was born Lorenzo Cecilio V. Magallanes in Chicago and raised with his three brothers in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Both parents emigrated from México. He spoke and read Spanish fluently. Larry attended Holy Cross grammar/middle school, De La Salle High School, and St. Mary’s College.
Larry and Gail (Mercer) had three beautiful children, Danielle, Larry, and Mark. While studying to be a court reporter, Larry was offered a position at a new Christian TV station, WCFC 38, to do data processing. He became IT director in his 26 years at the station, developing many programs and processes from the ground up. Larry was also a graphic designer and gifted portrait artist, thus, was commissioned by TV 38’s management to create many flyers, TV Guide ads, and other promotional materials. He went on to work as an IT director at the Village of Villa Park, where he helped install the first wireless system, connected many departments into tighter networks, and assisted police and fire with their Toughbooks.
In 1984, Larry married Sally Eileen (Ricks). They had a long and happy life together and celebrated 40 years of marriage on September 15, 2024. Besides his artistic and technical skills, Larry loved to plant unique flowers and plants. Each year he planned his arrangements, making sure they had fillers, spillers, and thrillers! He taught his daughter, Danielle, how to plant everything, so she will be making Larry’s home bloom again this year.
Larry will always be in our hearts and forever missed. He was a rare man among common ones and his spirit will shine on. We love you so much!
