Laurel Christian

February 1, 1941 — April 27, 2026

Laurel “Laurie” S. Christian, age 85, a resident of Schaumburg for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Laurie was born on February 1, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, and was the daughter of the late Sigmund and Elvina Glosniak. In addition to her parents, Laurie was preceded in death by her loving sister, Darlene Teuber-Drake, on April 8, 2011.

Laurie spent her early years growing up on the north side of Chicago and her weekends and summers “out at the lake” in Antioch, Illinois, where her parents owned a summer home–memories which she carried fondly throughout her life.

On June 20, 1959, Laurie married Robert “Bob” Christian, the love of her life. They shared 50 years of marriage together, building a life centered on love, laughter, and family. Bob preceded Laurie in death on September 25, 2016.

Laurie lived her life with an open heart and a spirit that shined through everything she did. She dedicated more than 30 years to serving students and staff in education, beginning her career in administrative support at Nathan Hale Elementary School and later retiring from Frost Junior High. She was widely respected for her strong work ethic, kindness, compassion and steadfast dedication, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working with her.

In her retirement, Laurie pursued her passion for art, taking classes and creating beautiful paintings that reflected her creativity and spirit. She was also an avid gardener and was a long time member of the Schaumburg garden club. Laurie loved to travel and treasured her time at her home in Sarasota, where she delighted in the beach, the sunshine, and celebrating life with dear friends by the pool.

Laurie deeply valued her friendships, often gathering with loved ones over meals and maintaining close and meaningful connections. Above all, she was devoted to her family and never missed an opportunity to celebrate life’s special moments with them.

Laurie was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Sheryl (Wayne) Lumpkins and Mary (Mark) Chuipek. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Victoria Mueller, Blake (Melissa) Mueller, Jordan (Sarah) Chuipek, and Trevor (Casey) Chuipek. She took great pride in the fact that all four of her grandchildren attended the University of Iowa. Go Hawkeyes! Laurie was also the cherished “Gigi” to her great-grandchildren Olivia, Wes and Amelia who brought her immense joy. She was the heart of our family.

Laurie will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
