Kong Kommanivanh, 73, passed away peaceful at home early morning of March 27, 2020 with his family by his side. He was born in Na Hung Noi Village in Savanekhet Province, Laos on August 15, 1946 to Sui and Thia Kommanivanh.

Kong served as a Master Helicopter Mechanic in the Laos Royal Air Force for nearly twenty years after completing training at the Chanute Airforce base in Rantoul, IL.

On May 10, 1970, he wed Bounnhong Thepsouvanh. In 1980, Kong and family escaped Laos to a refugee camp in Na Pho, Thailand and later to the Philippines. They were accepted for asylum in the United States in 1983 and immigrated to Albany Park, Chicago, IL.

Kong was a jack of all trades; pro mechanic, master fisherman, avid gardener, family handyman and Heineken sipper. He was committed to serving the Lao community and was an active member of Lao American Community Services, Lao Funeral Association, and the Laos Royal Airforce Association, among other service organizations. He was an elder of the Wat Lao Buddharam Temple of Hampshire, Illinois.

Kong was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He is survived by his wife, Bounnhong, 5 sons; Ai (Kristi), Phonepasith, Chitprasong, Vongsavanh, and Chantala, and 3 grandchildren; Genevieve, Kaylin, and Kyler.

Kong will be laid to rest on Sunday, March 29 at Countryside Funeral Home in Bartlett, IL in a private Buddhist ceremony. The family will arrange an open memorial for a later date.
