Kenneth Netzel

February 8, 1940 — January 31, 2021

Kenneth James Netzel Sr., 80, of Bartlett, IL (formerly of Franklin Park, IL) passed away early Sunday morning, January 31, 2021.

Ken was born in Chicago, IL on February 8, 1940, the only son of Casimir and Mae (nee Koziol) Netzel. He graduated from Elmwood Park High School in 1957 and became an automobile mechanic. Ken worked for several automobile dealerships, beginning at Hazelhurst Ford and then spending most of his career at Elmhurst Motors as a mechanic, service adviser, and service manager before retiring in 2008. He married the former Phyllis Fusco on May 23, 1959, and spent 61 years together. Ken and Phyllis subsequently had four children. Ken was an extremely handy guy and could usually be found repairing or performing maintenance on some appliance or outdoor equipment. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially enjoyed spending two weeks every summer at Lake Nancy in Minong, WI.

Ken is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Bartlett; three sons and one daughter; Kenneth Netzel Jr. (Ivy) of Wilson, MI; Daniel Netzel (Maureen) of South Elgin; Joseph C. Netzel (Cari) of Chicago; and Lisa (Andy) Scumaci of Bartlett. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Christopher (Megan) Netzel, Mallory (Brian) Muzzarelli, Joseph K. Netzel, Jordyn Scumaci, Devin Netzel, Nickolas Scumaci, and Michelle Netzel; and 2 great-grandchildren (Archer and Maverick), along with many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents Casimir and Mae.

In accordance with Ken’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. He wants the family to have a picnic and tell stories remembering the good times. He also wished to be cremated and have his ashes spread at Lake Nancy at the Bright Cottage in Minong. Countryside Funeral Home in Bartlett is assisting the family with the arrangements.
