Kenneth H. Bletz passed away in the arms of his loving family at his home in Bartlett, Illinois at 9:30 AM on Monday, March 7, 2011. He was 66 years old. He was born to Emerson E. and Elisabeth R. (nee Etzel) on September 22, 1944 in Mansfield Ohio. He was an employee of the FAA for 27 years and an Air Force Veteran.
Ken was a very dedicated family man. He enjoyed vacationing and boating with his family. He took a great deal of pleasure in spending time with his grandkids. His hobbies included photography, video editing and woodworking. In his later years he enjoyed retirement by traveling extensively throughout Europe and the Americas with Carol, his wife of 45 years.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Carol (nee Bateman); devoted children Sherry (Tom) Hartmann, Jason (Trish) Bletz and Joanne (Ian Glazer) Bletz and seven adoring grandchildren: James, 14; Hunter, 9; Eve, 8; Ethan, 7; Veronika, 5; Cameron, 2 and Scarlett, 1 month; and his brothers Robert Bletz (Tammy), Richard Bletz (Sally) of Mansfield, OH and his sister, Elaine Bletz of Columbus, OH.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David.
Memorial visitation will be Friday, March 18, 2011 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home, 950 South Bartlett Road, Bartlett, IL (corner of Stearns and Bartlett Roads). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Living Lord Lutheran Church, 1044 Congress Drive, Bartlett, IL (on the east side of Route 59, just south of the Stearns Road/Route 59 intersection) www.livinglordlutheran.org.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation to the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initative, 17 Bethea Dr., Ossining, NY 10562, www.sarcomahlep.org would be greatly appreciated by the family, for research into the rare cancer that took Ken all too soon.
