Kay Schuckert

February 26, 1938 — March 4, 2020

Kay Marlyn Schuckert, 82, nee Melchi of Bartlett, IL formerly of Huntley passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bartlett, IL following surgery. She was born on February 26, 1938, the third child to Letha L. nee Hiller Melchi and Howard M Melchi in Hooppole, IL. She graduated Sterling High School 1956 and attended St. Francis Hospital Nursing School in Peoria, IL.

She was married on April 19, 1958 to Edward J. Schuckert in Sterling, IL. While attending nursing school, she met Edward at a nurse’s dance. The next weekend the floor nurse said that a patient on a different floor knew her. Edward had been admitted to have his appendix removed and the rest is a lifelong love story lasting 61 years.

The couple lived in Aurora, IL for 17 years and as the family grew, they moved to Yorkville, IL for 24 years. During their retirement years, they moved to Del Webb, Huntley, IL for 16 years and four years ago to Clare Oaks Senior Living, Bartlett, IL. She was a true born and bred Illinoisan. Kay was a homemaker, taking care of her growing family of five children expanding two decades. She was a willing and reliable volunteer whether it be a Cub Scout Den Mother at St. Rita of Cascia, Aurora, a Brownie Leader in Yorkville, a CCD Coordinator at St. Patrick’s Church, Bristol, delivering Meals on Wheels or volunteering at Lyon Farms in Yorkville. She never missed a sporting event that her children were involved in playing.

She was a member of Kendall County Homemakers Extension Association. Her hobbies included: avid reader of mysteries and thrillers, loved playing bridge and other card games, a good cook and baker, gardening, canning - jelly and jams was her specialty. As a couple, they enjoyed hosting parties with family and friends in their home, traveling and taking cruises.

Kay was a loving wife, great mom, wonderful grandmother, sister, and aunt, steadfast and feisty. Survivors include Katherine A. (James) Hari of St. Charles, IL; Paula L. Schuckert of Schaumburg, IL; Michael S. (Brannon McFarland) Schuckert, Batavia, IL; grandsons Alexander J. Hari, Chicago, IL and Trevor J.S. (TJ) Hari of Sherman Oaks, CA; sister-in-law M. Suzanne (David M) French, Mt. Prospect, IL as well as many nieces and nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John M. Melchi; brother and sister-in-law Francis H. (Tiny) and Elizabeth S. Melchi and two sons G. Joseph and John E. Schuckert.

Visitation Tuesday, March 10th, 9:30 am until time of mass 10:30 am at Clare Oaks Senior Living in the Sacred Heart Chapel, Bartlett, IL with Father Dennis Carnerio officiating. Cremation will be private at the Countryside Crematory following mass. Light refreshments provided.

Private Luncheon following funeral. A Private Interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Bristol, IL will be held at a later date.
