Katherine Tillman

August 20, 1917 — June 23, 2016

Katherine Pearl Neal Tillman, formerly of Fayetteville Tennessee, passed to her heavenly reward on Thursday, June 23, 2016. She was the daughter of Rev. James M. Neal and Pearl Nora Sanders Neal.

A lovely woman whose life’s work was to serve God and love everyone she met. Born August 20, 1917 in Perry County, Tennessee, along with her twin brother, Richard, Katherine spent her life devoted to her family and anyone who needed her. She worked some 45 years for Serbin Dress Company in Fayetteville, and was active in her church as piano and organ musician and Sunday School teacher. She relocated to Elgin, Illinois in 1985, made friends quickly and spent time with the family she loved. She was a prolific writer and wrote some 350 poems and songs, was a Bible scholar and an excellent seamstress. She was a member of Parks City Baptist Church in Fayetteville and Elgin Bible Church, now New Life Community Church in Elgin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 44 years, Jesse W. Tillman, her twin brother Richard Neal, 4 other brothers, Collis, Henry, Sam and James Neal; son-in-law, Chris Ludovice and granddaughter Alyssa.

Survivors are daughter, Angeline Tillman Books, (Ron) Elgin, Illinois; 4 grandchildren, Cherri Towry Ludovice, Elgin, Illinois, Richard Towry, Hoffman Estates, Il, Mark Books (Jenny), Fredericksburg, Virginia, Jon Books (Vicky), Sycamore, Illinois; 3 great-grandchildren, Rachel Ludovice, Erik and Ellie Books and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
A memorial service will be held at New Life Community Church, Elgin on Thursday, July 7, at 6:00p.m.
Burial is at Lone Oak Cemetery, Lewisburg, Tennessee beside her husband.
