Karen O'Neil, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026. Karen was born on November 26, 1949, in Addison, Illinois.
Karen is survived by her loving children: Rick (Jennifer) O'Neil, Ron (Kim) O'Neil, and Heather O'Neil, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Jake, Nikki, Jackson, Kristin (Troy), Megan (George), Aiden, Makayla, TJ, and Ashlynn, and her beloved great-granddaughter Sophia.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward John Boekenhauer and Evelyn Lorraine Boekenhauer, as well as her siblings, Rick, Bonnie, and Lorraine.
Karen built a remarkable career at First Student, where she worked as a bus driver and dispatcher for an incredible 42 years. Her unwavering dedication to her job was renowned, and she took great pride in contributing to her community through her work.
Outside of work, Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life, particularly enjoying her crime shows on TV. However, her greatest passion was her family. Being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma brought immense fulfillment and happiness to her life, and she relished every moment spent with her loved ones. Karen will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
