Karen Carney

Karen Carney (nee Kavanaugh), 73, of Bartlett died September 24, 2023. Karen was the beloved wife of John T. Carney for 49 years; loving mother of David, J.P. (Teresa) and Rob (Kristen); proud grandmother of Colin, Ava, Connor, Neal, Mia and Morgan; sister of Kevin Kavanaugh.



Karen began her volunteer career as a member of the Eastview PTO in the mid 80's, later becoming PTO president. She expanded her influence in U-46 by joining the Citizens Advisory Council. She served the CAC as chairperson of the Enrollment and Facilities Committee, later serving as the Chair Person of CAC for 3 years. In 1991, she was elected to the U-46 Board of Education and continued to serve until May of 2011. During that time she served as both Vice-President and President of the Board. She played a role in the selection of 3 Superintendents. Over the almost 30 years of volunteer service to the students of U-46 she participated in many other groups at both the district and state levels. She was designated a Master Board Member by the Illinois Association of School Boards.



Visitation will be held from 4:00pm - 8 :00pm at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Road (at Stearns Road), Bartlett on Thursday, September 28, 2023 . Funeral service will begin on Friday at 9:15am at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory. Mass will be held at 10:00am at St. Peter Damian Church, Bartlett. Interment will be private.
