Kanwarjit Mehta

November 9, 1939 — February 18, 2017

Kanwarjit "K.J." Singh Mehta passed away on the morning of Saturday, February 18, 2017 at his long time residence in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Ken J. Singh, as he was known by his friends, was born on November 11, 1939 in Rawalpindi which was then part of India. As a youth, his family moved to the State of Bihar and then before beginning university, to the State of Punjab. From there, he immigrated to the United States to pursue graduate studies in Atlanta. After a long career in corporate accounting positions that eventually brought him to Chicago, he pursued a number of entrepreneurial ventures. More recently, he retired and became very involved in the administration and governance of his place of worship in Palatine, IL (see below).

Ken leaves behind his loving wife Pravesh Kaur, daughter Ritu Kaur and son Anuraag (“Anu”) and daughter-in-law Nidhi Datta; grandchildren Kavir (“Kavi”), Riya, and Simran (“Simi”). He also leaves behind his brother Surjit Mehta, and his wife Harpreet Kaur and their children, Roger and Raman and brother Brijinder S. Mehta and his wife Mohinderjit Kaur and their son, Avinder Mehta and his wife Priyanka and their daughter Mannat and their daughter Poonam Mehta. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Sudeep Kaur and her daughter Simran.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 3:00p.m. until the time of cremation at 5:00p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 950 South Bartlett Road (at Stearns Road) in Bartlett. Cremation will take place at Countryside Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s name to his place of worship Sikh Religious Society c/o Kar Sewa, 1280 Winnetka Street, Palatine, IL 60067 are very much appreciated.
