Judy was born in Elgin, where she spent most of her life. After graduating Elgin High in 1962, she was accepted at Loyola University into the Nursing Program. She put her schooling on hold and in July 1962 she married Joseph Michael (Mike) Crawford. They had three children, Lynn Rapp, Beverly Grindel and Michael Crawford.
Judy worked various secretarial positions in the private sector, as well as for School District U-46, but never forgot her goal of becoming a nurse. She graduated with high honors from the LPN Program at Elgin Community College in 1992, then continued her education in nursing by earning her Associate of Science in Nursing with high honors in 1993. Judy received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from Northern Illinois in 1996, followed by graduate coursework in the Managed Care Program at Benedictine University. Her compassion and desire to care for people drew her to nursing and drove her career.
After finishing her education, Judy worked for Sherman Hospital. In 2006 she moved to Goleta, Calif., where she put together an illustrious career at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital. Even in retirement, Judy's love of helping people led her to volunteer at the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center.
Judy lived a pleasant and fulfilling life in California, and she thoroughly enjoyed signing with the Santa Barbara Treble Clef Chorus. She was active in wine clubs, an avid enthusiast for the Santa Barbara Film Festival and always loved to travel. Whether in Elgin or Goleta, Judy was known for always being a loyal and dependable friend. She enjoyed making people feel special, being thoughtful to others was how she lived. She was dearly loved in both communities.
Judy is survived by her three children, as well as five grandchildren: Jason (Ashley) Lieser, Jake Lieser, Brett Grindel, Matt (Jessica) Crawford and Amanda Crawford (Colton Larson). She also loved her four precious great-grandchildren: Grace & Anna Lieser, Jackson Crawford and Cayden Larson.
