It is with deepest sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joseph J. Starosta, who peacefully left us on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the age of 80. A beloved resident of Elgin, IL, Joseph was born in Chicago, IL, where his remarkable journey began on a summer's day in July.
Joe dedicated his life to public service, working as a courageous firefighter, always ready to put others before himself. His commitment to service also extended to his country; Joseph proudly served in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He shared his love for country and community with those around him, reflecting the very best of American values.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Joe was a devoted family man. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Vickie Starosta, with whom he shared many cherished memories and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter. Joseph was a proud father to James (Natalie) Starosta and Robyn (Jeffrey) Pearson. His grandchildren, Abigail, Emersyn, Alexander, Christopher, and William, brought immense joy to his life, and he was fondly adored as "Grampie."
Besides his family, Joseph is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Sherlag. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Starosta, whom he spoke of fondly and whose spirits he carried with him always.
Joe had an innate curiosity and a steady hand, both valuable traits that he applied as a skilled mechanic. He found tranquility in fishing and a delight in model trains—pastimes that filled his days with happiness. Joe was also an animal lover. He had many pets who adored him.
