Joseph Anthony Scelsa, 96, of Schaumburg IL joined his heavenly family and friends peacefully on October 26, 2022. He will live on in our hearts forever!
Joseph grew up in Chicago, IL with his five siblings following his parent’s migration from Sicily. He followed in his father’s footsteps and joined in the family shoe repair business. He was drafted into the Army at the age of 17 to fight for our country’s freedom in WWII on October 9th 1944. He was wounded on April 5th 1945. He was decorated with a Purple heart victory ribbon, Good conduct ribbon, American Theatre of Operations Ribbon, and one Bronze Campaign Star. He then joined civilian life once again and joined the tool and dye trade. Mary Grusling entered his life, they married and together they raised four children in Chicago, Peter, Daniel, Diane, and Susan. Retirement brought them to the suburb of Schaumburg where grandparenting became their life! Shortly after he was suddenly widowed. His wife’s passing propelled him to a satisfying life of faithfully serving his church community.
He was survived by his four children and their families.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 4-8 pm at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 333 South Roselle Road, Roselle, IL 60172. The funeral service will follow on Saturday, November 5, 2022 10:30 am at the funeral home. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine, IL.
