Joseph A. Melfi, 81, of Crystal Lake and Bradenton, Florida and formerly of Canadaiuga, New York. Husband of Judith, nee Musicus; dad of David (Tena) Melfi, Anissa (Todd) Estep and the late Joseph; pop-pop of Andrew Estep, Beck Melfi, Tamsyn Estep and Quinn Estep; brother of the late Ralph (late Mary) Melfi and son of the late Joseph and the late Louise, nee Copolella. Joseph was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. where he learned to cheer on his home team Phillies, Eagles and 76ers. He attended Northeast Catholic High School. After high school he attended LaSalle University in Philadelphia. He was offered a job with Sears, in Chicago, where he worked as a store controller and auditor for 30 years, retiring in 1994. Retirement gave Joe the time to do the things he loved like watching sporting events, boating, skiing and getting out of the cold for 6 months and enjoying time with friends in Florida. More than anything Joe cherished being a pop-pop and being a part of his grandchildren's lives. Visitation Sunday, January 6th 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 950 South Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns Rd.) Bartlett. Funeral Monday, January 7th, 9:45 am prayers at the funeral home to Resurrection Catholic Church. Mass 10:30 am. Cremation will be private at the Countryside Crematory following mass.
