Joseph Kowalewski

December 8, 1944 — August 7, 2025

Joseph (“Joe”) Kowalewski, 80, of Bartlett, IL passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025 at the Rainbow Hospice ARK. Adoring husband of Sharon for almost 55 years, loving father of Sharon (“Shari”) (Martin) Allen, Michael (Rubi), Andrea (A.J.) Purcell, Joseph (Margot), and David; grandfather of Grant and Jacob Allen, Caleb, Ethan and Sandra Kowalewski, and Luca Kowalewski; brother of Connie (Nick) Guglielmi and Al (Kyle) Kowalewski; brother-in-law of Martha (Phil) Beck and Fred Wise (Cindy Rose); and uncle to Jessica (Dave) Funston, Justin (Jessica) Delfino, and Jeanette Wise.

Joe was a lover of the outdoors and shared many fun travel memories with his family over the years, taking his children camping in every state in the continental United States. A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Joe continued to honor his country throughout his professional career as well. His relationship with God was vital to who he was and it was evident in how he loved people. One of the things those who knew him will remember is his sense of humor. Even if his comedic timing was a bit off, Joe’s ability to find humor is something that remained a part of him throughout his life.

In honor of Joe’s love of camping and national parks, a Celebration of Life open house will be held Friday, August 15 th from 11 am until 2 pm at the Bartlett Log Cabin, 102 N Eastern Ave, Bartlett, IL 60103. There will be a private memorial internment for Joe at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Joe to the National Park Foundation ( nationalparks.org ).
