In Memory of John Readdy

John Readdy of Streamwood passed away on November 8, 2022. John was fondly known as Jack to family and friends. John was the beloved husband of the late Barbara L. Readdy; loving father of William (Theresa), Dorothy, Kelly, Victor (Kelli Walker), Michael (Colleen), Pamela (Candelario) Rodriguez and the late Loretta (Jeffrey) Gainey; dear grandfather of Andrew (Amanda) Alexander, Michael (Diane) Gainey, the late Kaitlin Gainey, Elizabeth Gainey, Anthony Juliano (fiancé Melissa), Brian Readdy, Jack Readdy, Jeremy and Sophie Readdy; great grandfather of Savannah, Aubrey, Emma, Logan, Henry, Mae, and Sylar. John was born in Chicago to the late William and Margaret Readdy. John is survived by his cherished sisters Jenny (late Walter) Grayeski, Midgie (late Harold) Berringer, Theresa (Charles) Voss, Kathleen (Michael) Bafaro, and his sister-in-law Pamela (late Michael) Christ. John is also preceded in death by his sisters Mary Readdy, Patricia (Robert) Gaskin and his brother William Readdy.

John was a member of the Hamlin Park Lions in 1952 when the team won the Chicago Park Districts junior football league championship. While in high school, John worked at Riverview Park to earn tuition so he could attend St. Benedict High School, where he graduated in 1956. John enlisted in the Navy after high school and served aboard the USS Forrestal (CVA-59). The Navy allowed John the opportunity to visit many countries he would have never seen otherwise. Through his Navy experience, John was able to traverse the Atlantic, cruise the Mediterranean and receive the Navy’s Blue Nose Certificate for crossing into the Arctic Circle.

John had a long career of 36 years with Hart Schaffner & Marx where he held several executive management positions before being named Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, a position he held for many years before retiring. Additionally, prior to Hart Schaffner & Marx, John worked for Proudfoot Consulting, Formfit Manufacturing and Kuppenheimer Manufacturing.

Not one to sit around, John started his own real estate company and began helping family and friends buy and sell their homes. Coming from such a big family, John didn’t have to advertise for clients.
John was a devote catholic involved with St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish for over 50 years. He shared his love of God and the Catholic faith by serving the Church at the parish level as a catechist teaching CCD classes, and also serving on the parishes financial board.

John was a lifelong Chicago sports fan; he would often joke about living long enough to see his Bears win a Super Bowl and his Cubs win a World Series. When John wasn’t home with family or watching his sports teams, he was traveling. The Navy gave John a love of travel which in his later years motivated him to travel to Europe, South America, and always cruising back to the states.
John lead a full and rewarding life, loved by many.
