On Tuesday, August 30th, 2022, Jerry Sapp, devoted family man, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 63.

Jerry was born the second child of Glen Sapp and Barbara Hankins on June 7th, 1959 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He grew up in Hamburg, located in the southwest corner of Iowa. As a young adult, he worked in retail eventually finding his way to managing a store at Woodfield Mall in the Chicagoland area.

He met his wife Sue in May of 1987 and they were wed a year later on May 29th 1988. With Sue’s continual love and support, Jerry went back to school, completing his degree in Accounting from Aurora University in 1990. From there, he worked in municipal finance for over 30 years. He retired from local government in 2021 but quickly transitioned to his next calling the following year; working as Director of Finance and Accounting for First Presbyterian Church of Evanston. He had found renewed purpose and was looking forward to this next chapter of his life.

Sue and Jerry moved to Bartlett, IL in 1991 where they raised two sons. Nothing was more important to him than his family and, in recent years, some of his greatest joys came while visiting with his children and grandchildren.

With his free time, Jerry was committed to giving back to the community, most recently serving on the Board of Directors for Soaring Eagle Academy, a school supporting students with autism, and as the Treasurer for Brampton Place Property Owners Association.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Glen. He is survived by his wife Sue, his two children James (Christyne) and Michael, his grandchildren Eloise and Emerson (and their dog Tucker), his mother Barbara Hankins, his siblings Joyce (Keith) Shelton, Jim (Lorie) Sapp, Janet Sapp, and Joe (Teresa) Sapp. Jerry is also remembered fondly as the self-appointed favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews.
