Jean A. Michel, of Elgin, Illinois and Mercer, Wisconsin; wife for 39 years to the late Charles; mother of Barbara (late Bobby) Hamblen, Paul (Cynthia) Michel, Thomas (Lynn) Michel, Diane (James) Spangler, Debra (Steve) Lauderdale, Richard Michel, Jean (Elmer) Wacker and Patricia (James) Haberkost; grandmother of 26, great grandmother of 44, and grandmother of the late Aaron Hamblen; dear sister of Rita (the late Lloyd) Moody, Betty (the late Ed) Villella, Charles (the late Sharon) Ostdick, Fran (the late Robert) Sommers, the late James (the late Elaine) Ostdick.
Jean met her future husband when both of them were members of the speed skating club in Elgin. She always had an appreciation and love for the outdoors. Family vacations were spent camping, fishing, long snowmobiling trips mainly in Wisconsin
She was a dedicated neo natal nurse at St. Joseph and Sherman Hospitals, working by the motto, "I love 'em and leave 'em."
Jean spent her years of retirement, not sitting in a chair watching TV but staying active around her lake house in Mercer, WI. sewing, quilting and gardening. She also never passed up an opportunity to travel around the world, to such places as Canada, Alaska, Nova Scotia and Japan with family. She and her sisters were always the life of every family gathering from birthdays, weddings and holidays.
Her strong Catholic faith allowed her to be a very active member at Saint Mary Catholic Church for many years in Elgin. Upon reflecting on her life, Jean felt most proud of being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Visitation Thursday, October 21st, 3:00 pm-9:00 pm at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 95 S. Gilbert St. (at Middle St.) South Elgin. Funeral Friday, October 22nd, visitation 10:30 am at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 397 Fulton St. Elgin, until the time of her mass 11:30 am. Cremation will be private at the Countryside Crematory. in lieu of flowers donations in the form of a mass or a donation to Saint Mary Church would be appreciated.
