Janie Robinson (née Gray), age 80, of Streamwood, formerly a longtime resident of the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, died Fri., Dec. 19, 2014 at St. Alexius Med. Ctr. in Hoffman Estates after a long illness. She was born on Mar. 6, 1934, in Greenville, MS, to James and Rose Gray (née Brown). A 1952 graduate of Sacred Heart H.S. in Greenville, Janie attended Southern Univ. in Baton Rouge from 1952 to 1954 before marrying and moving to Chicago. She worked in healthcare (Univ. of Chicago, Cook County Hosp.), telecom (Western Electric’s Hawthorne Works), and banking (Beverly Bank) industries prior to retirement and enjoyed sewing, cooking, acting, and modeling. Janie was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Willie Robinson, and a son, Jerome D. Robinson. She is survived by another son, Harold F. Robinson of Atlanta and her brother, James Gray, Jr., of Hanover Park, IL. Janie had a zeal for life and will be greatly missed by many family members and friends.
