Janice Lewis

Janice “Jan” M. Lewis, entered into eternal life surrounded by family and
friends, as per her wishes, in her home on Monday, June 1, 2026 at the age of
76. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Elmer and Mary (Knakfus) Hansen on
October 17, 1949. She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband,
James Lewis, and her devoted brother, Elmer Hansen. Jan and Jim were
long-time residents of Bolingbrook, Illinois and enjoyed many lifelong
friendships.
Jan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love
towards others. Throughout her career, Jan spent over 50 years as the
Manager of Finance at Sears Roebuck and Co. She had a love of gardening,
reading, doing puzzles, shopping, traveling, and spending time with family.
Jan enjoyed hosting gatherings, for any occasion; always making sure there
was enough dessert for double the amount of people attending. She loved all
holidays, especially Christmas. She even enjoyed the beautiful lights of her
Christmas trees in her final days. Although no children of her own “AJ” (Auntie
Jan) treated her cousins as “her kids”
, standing beside them through every
season of life. She was known as their mentor, keeper of family stories, and
source of unconditional love.
Jan is survived by her cousins Jennifer (Mark) Murray, Dominick Mastrangelo,
Matthew (Jenny) Mastrangelo, Elizabeth (Tommy) Potteiger, Kimberlee (Dan)
Burhans, Lynda (Josh) Zelnis, Jaclyn (Bill) Del Re, Douglas Mastrangelo, Sarah
(Daniel) Earlywine, her nephew Chris (Renee) Hansen, her dear neighbors Ann
and Gaye, many cousins, great nieces and nephew, co-workers, caregivers,
and friends.
Visitation will be held at Cumberland Chapels (8300 West Lawrence Avenue
Norridge, IL) on Friday, June 5, 2026 from 9:00-11:00 AM. Funeral Services will
then proceed to St. Monica Catholic Church, Chicago. Funeral Mass 11:30 AM.
Interment will follow at Acacia Park Cemetery
