Jane L. Harris, a long-time resident of Bloomingdale, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 surrounded by her family.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph J. and Ehrline R. Pazderka. She is survived by her husband, Ralph E. “Gene” Harris; her sister, Ann P. (James) Trull of St. Louis, MO; and her brother-in-law, Bruce A. Harris of Rantoul, IL.
Jane was born in St. Louis, MO on November 9, 1948. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas in 1970 and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
She was a licensed Clinical Social Worker and worked as an Academic and International Student Advisor at a local community college. She thoroughly enjoyed working with international students, English as a second language (ESL) students, and GED students.
Jane enjoyed traveling in the U.S.A. and in foreign countries, even sometimes meeting up with her former students and their families. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid foodie and enjoyed dining out at restaurants, but also entertaining and preparing gourmet meals or something chocolate for family and friends.
Jane’s faith was important to her; as was her membership in a faith based group fondly know as the “God Squad”. She was an avid reader and member of a book club. She most enjoyed reading her mystery fiction books. She was an accomplished bridge player and member of the Bridge Babes club. Jane and her husband shared an interest in classic cars and often traveled to collector car auctions.
Jane participated in varied volunteer opportunities from serving as Assistant Girl Scout leader to mentoring ESL students.
Memorial visitation Monday, July 25th 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 333 S. Roselle Rd., Roselle. Memorial Mass Tuesday, July 26th 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore Church, 431 W. Army Trail Road, Bloomingdale, please meet at church.
In lieu of flowers, she requested memorial gifts may be made to: The Harper College Educational Foundation – Jean Chapman International Student Scholarship; Salvation Army; or St. Isidore Catholic Church Perpetual Adoration Campaign.
