James "Jim" Bauer passed away in Mission Viejo, CA on April 20, 2025. Jim, formerly of Roselle, IL, also resided in Aurora, IL. Jim was born in Tuscola, IL and lived his childhood years in the small East Central Illinois town of Murdock, IL. He attended Newman High School where he was active in all sports – track, football, and basketball. He was also Student Council President and Homecoming King.
Jim attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL and graduated in 1963 with a BS in Education. Jim then went to University of Illinois Masters Degree program in Sociology and received his Masters Degree. His first education position was in the Ellis School District as teacher, Principal and Superintendent. His next position was in the Rossville School District as Superintendent, Principal and Athletic Director. He also became a trained paramedic and volunteer fireman. He received a CAS degree from the University of Illinois in 1968.
Jim briefly left education from 1987 to 1991 to work in private life insurance with Equitable Life Insurance and United Funds. In 1991, he returned to education when he was hired as Business Manager in Bensenville Elementary School District 2. He later became Associate Superintendent for Financial Operations until 2003. In 2004, he was appointed the Business Manager t the DuPage County Regional Office of Education in Wheaton until his retirement in 2012.
Jim enjoyed many interests. He was passionate about car racing – attended many Indy 500 races and NASCAR races. He loved fishing and snowmobiling. He was an ardent Chicago sports fan – Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs and White Sox. He played golf occasionally and went to numerous PGA golf tournaments throughout the US.
Jim was also actively involved in the Roselle United Methodist Church serving in many leadership positions. In 2000, he and his wife Marilyn were married. Jim is survived by Marilyn, stepson Dustin (Erin) Beutin, grandchildren Zack, Addison and Wesley, sisters Jane (the late Burdette) Orris and Juanita (Bill) Dilliner, nieces Amanda Orris and the late Elaine Williams, nephews Joe (Sam) Dilliner and the late John Dilliner.
Visitation Wednesday, April 7, 2025 at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 333 S. Roselle Rd. (1/2 mile south of Irving Park Rd.), Roselle. Family and friends will meet Thursday, May 8 at Roselle United Methodist Church 206 Rush St., Roselle for funeral services at 11:00am. Interment Friday, May 9 at Murdock Cemetery, Villa Grove, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to two of Jim's favorite charities, Boys Town at www.boystown.org or Disabled American Vets at www.dav.org.
