John "Jack" Walsh, 72, of Bloomingdale and raised in Niles; husband of Ellen, nee Hallerstrom; dad of Sean (Sarah), Patrick, Erin (Anthony) Hervas, late Cali Tanner, Brett (Renee) Tanner and Karla Tanner; grandpa of Alyanna, Brooke and Ryan; brother of Michele (Bill) Neilson and the late Mary Pat Stoll; son of the late James and Viola; uncle of Mike, Chris, Lisa and Brian and friend to many.

John “Jack” Walsh was a proud father, husband, friend, Grandpa, brother, Uncle, Irishman and wine snob. Always ready with a joke, albeit not always a funny one, and ready to share a glass of wine. Jack loved to travel and take pictures of the places he visited and the friends who accompanied him in his travels. He was a strong believer in volunteering and giving back in any way he could. After retiring, he started to volunteer at NMRS where he assisted service members with financial assistance and advice. After learning about Honor Flight Chicago, he became passionate about the program and was heavily involved. Even during his illness, he continued to volunteer for as long as he could manage. While battling cancer, he may have lost his hair, but not his sense of humor, which he demonstrated in his newly acquired pirate hat bought just for the occasion. Jack made an impact on many, and his absence will be felt by all those with who knew him.
